NOISE MONITORING (INITIAL, POSITIVE & ADDITIONAL)

INTRODUCTION

The noise monitoring is to determine if any employee may be exposed to noise level at or above the action level .The main objective of the noise exposure monitoring was to conduct area measurement , noise contour, personal noise exposure monitoring and to recommend appropriate control measures to prevent or reduce high noise exposure

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

FACTORIES AND MACHINERY ACT, 1967 (ACT 139), Factory and Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulations 1989

Regulation 9: Initial employee exposure monitoring

  • An occupier shall conduct initial expose monitoring in pursuance to regulation 8 within six months from the date these Regulations take effect.
  • An initial employee exposure monitoring may be limited to one or more representative employee or employees from a particular group of employees performing the same work or from the same workplace, who the occupier reasonably believes is or are exposed to noise level representative of the group of employees.
  • The Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL)
    • 90 dB (A) for eight (8) working hours
    • 115 dB (A) at any time for Maximum Level
    • 140 dB (impulse noise) at any time
    • Schedule 1 in Regulation – for exposure other than 8 hours
    • Action Level is 85 dB (A) for 8 hours or dose equal to 0.5

POSITIVE NOISE MONITORING (FMA 1989)

As stated in Section 10, FMA 1989. If Initial employee noise monitoring results shows the possibility of any employee exposure to noise level at or above action level. The employee shall determine noise exposure levels for employees engaged in same work within six month of date of receipt of the initial noise monitoring

ADDITIONAL NOISE MONITORING (FMA 1989)

As stated in Section 11, FMA 1989. Whenever there are changes in production, process, equipment, control measures in the factory within six month from date of changes
